Innovation Day Reflection

 Problem

How can we provide electricity to community outdoor spaces in an energy efficient way that still maintains the safety and “fun” aesthetic of the space. There are some people in the world that want to get rid of pavement because it can be dangerous. We found a way that we can harness the heat into wind energy.

Hypothesis

Our project was to make a fan powered by heat. We made the fan out of pie tin and lit 22 candles for the heat. We think that the fan will spin due to the heat the concrete gives off. The angle that the fan blades are positioned were very important so the heat can push the fan around. We believe that it will take time for the fan to spin because the heat needs time to get to the top.

Materials

We had to use a pie tin, a pencil, a thumb tack, candles, sticky tack, a bolt and a trey. We would fill the trey with all the candles, put the tip of the pencil into the sticky tack witch is on the trey. We would cut the pie tin to look like fan blades. We would put the thumb tack through the middle of the fan and into the bolt. We would light the candles and wait for the heat to rise. Here is a picture.

Procedure

My partner and I  worked really well together and shared a lot of our ideas. We were very responsible but yet fun.  I don’t have a lot to say except for how great my partner was.

Conclusion

In conclusion this was probably my favorite innovation day project because of how we didn’t really needed anyone’s help and we could do whatever we wanted. It was fun to play with fire and test a lot of prototypes. In the end it was fun to see our parents come and see what we have made. Buy guys see you later! Buy guys.

  1. I liked how you explained how you did it and its so fascinating how the fan moves just from fire! Nice picture.
